Perez Hilton hospitalized in serious but stable condition, surgery expected
Perez Hilton, 48, is in a Florida hospital under the Baker Act after a livestreamed self-harm incident; his family says he suffered significant blood loss and will need surgery.
Perez Hilton remains in a Florida hospital in a condition described by his family as "serious but stable" after a livestreamed self-harm episode on Aug. 4. The family said he experienced significant blood loss and sustained additional injuries that will require surgery in the coming days, and that his recovery will be lengthy.
Hilton, who is being held under the state's Baker Act for involuntary psychiatric evaluation, has had only limited contact with anyone outside his immediate family and medical team. The family asked media outlets to stay away from their home and to refrain from photographing his three children.
Miami-Dade police responded to multiple calls about a man livestreaming self-harm. Officers spoke with family members, disengaged tactically and, according to the sheriff's office, safely recovered the individual and transferred him to a local hospital. The department emphasized de-escalation tactics and noted that mental-health professionals are providing support to the family.
TikTok said its automated systems flagged the livestream for violating community guidelines within minutes and that the stream ended after about 15 minutes. The platform later reported a moderator error delayed the takedown and that it had alerted authorities.
Hilton's podcast co-host Chris Booker posted on Instagram that the focus remains on Hilton's health and expressed hope to resume their show when appropriate. Hilton, known for his celebrity gossip blog and subsequent media appearances, has previously disclosed serious health issues, including a recent hospital stay for flu-related complications.
