Free-agent wide receiver Stefon Diggs is expected to sign a one-year contract worth up to $12 million with the Washington Commanders, providing a veteran option alongside Terry McLaurin.

Washington, Va. – Wide receiver Stefon Diggs, a free agent, is poised to sign a one-year contract valued at up to $12 million with the Washington Commanders, according to sources cited by NFL Network and ESPN. The deal would give the team a veteran presence opposite Terry McLaurin, who missed a 1,000-yard season last year due to injury.

Diggs, 32, was born in the Washington suburbs and played college football at Maryland. He has been selected to the Pro Bowl four times and earned first-team All-Pro honors in 2020 when he led the league with 127 receptions. Last season with the New England Patriots, he recorded 85 catches for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns.

The addition comes as the Commanders seek to improve a receiving corps that struggled with injuries in 2025, when McLaurin missed seven games and other receivers missed significant time. Washington also drafted Antonio Williams in the third round and has younger players such as Luke McCaffrey and Jaylin Lane, along with veterans Treylon Burks, Van Jefferson and Dyami Brown.

"We are excited about the opportunity to add a player of Stefon Diggs' caliber and experience to our roster," a team spokesperson said.

Diggs was released by the Patriots in March 2026 after eight seasons split between the Minnesota Vikings, Buffalo Bills and New England. He was acquitted of felony strangulation and assault charges in May and faces a defamation lawsuit related to unrelated accusations.

The contract would mark Diggs' third team change in as many seasons, pairing him with McLaurin as the Commanders aim to bolster their passing attack for the upcoming campaign.
