Inouye Solar Telescope Captures Kelvin-Helmholtz Vortices on Sun
NASA’s Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope captured Kelvin-Helmholtz instability vortices on the Sun’s surface, providing new insight into the magnetic activity that drives solar flares and coronal mass ejections.
Earlier reports described the telescope’s record-breaking resolution of the Sun’s outer layer, showing fine-scale magnetic swirls and confirming that such vortices are common at magnetic boundaries. The observations, made from the facility on Maui, Hawaii, have been highlighted in multiple outlets as the most detailed view of solar photospheric dynamics to date.
