Undrafted former ACC Player of the Year Haynes King guides Panthers to 33-30 Hall of Fame Game win
Undrafted quarterback Haynes King threw for 180 yards and two touchdowns, adding a rushing score on the final play to lift the Panthers to a 33-30 victory over the Cardinals in the Hall of Fame Game.
Haynes King, a former Georgia Tech quarterback and last season’s ACC Player of the Year who entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent, came off the bench to lead the Panthers to a 33-30 win in Thursday night’s Hall of Fame Game. He replaced starter Kenny Pickett with 9:38 left in the first half while Pittsburgh trailed 14-7. King completed 21 of 34 passes for 180 yards and two touchdowns, connecting on a 15-yard and a 5-yard score, and added 39 rushing yards on three carries, including a 5-yard touchdown on the final play.
The Panthers amassed 378 total yards, while the Cardinals recorded 425 yards. Arizona rookie Carson Beck started for the Cardinals, completing 15 of 19 passes for 188 yards and a touchdown before being replaced by fourth-string quarterback Kedon Slovis, who threw for 106 yards and a touchdown on nine attempts.
"We trusted Haynes to step in and execute," a Panthers spokesperson said after the game.
The victory came as the Panthers overcame a halftime deficit and secured the win with King’s decisive run in the closing seconds.
