Apple TV revives "Ted Lasso" with a fourth season featuring a new women's team
"Ted Lasso" returns on Apple TV on Aug. 5 with season 4, introducing a women’s squad and a largely new cast while retaining core characters.
Apple TV will launch the fourth season of the sports comedy series "Ted Lasso" on Aug. 5. The new season acts as a soft reboot, shifting the focus to a women’s team in Kansas City and bringing in a largely new roster of players, while keeping lead characters Ted (Jason Sudeikis), Roy (Brett Goldstein), Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt) and the club’s leadership.
The premiere shows Ted working part-time at a grocery store before being recruited by Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham), Keeley (Juno Temple) and Higgins (Jeremy Swift) to coach the inaugural women’s side. After the initial episode, the story returns to England, where the coaching staff remains but the on-field squad is replaced by newcomers, including an assistant coach named Alice (Tanya Reynolds) and a diverse group of athletes facing typical challenges of underfunded women’s football.
Season 4 omits several longtime characters such as Jamie Tartt, Sam Obisanya and Dani Rojas, focusing instead on fresh talent and storylines that explore issues like limited media coverage, inadequate facilities and injury risks in women’s sport. The series aims to leverage renewed public interest in soccer following recent men’s and upcoming women’s World Cups, positioning the show as a key offering in Apple TV’s expanding content lineup.
