Apple plans third-generation foldable iPhone for 2028, Bloomberg reports
Apple is reportedly mapping out a third-generation foldable iPhone with larger displays, targeting a launch as early as 2028, according to Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman.
Apple is reportedly developing a third-generation foldable iPhone that could debut in 2028, Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman said in his latest "Power On" newsletter. Gurman noted that the company already has a roadmap extending two generations beyond the first foldable model, which is expected to launch this year.
The upcoming third-generation device is said to feature slightly larger inner and outer screens than its predecessors, though exact dimensions were not disclosed. The first foldable iPhone is anticipated to have a 7.8-inch inner display and a 5.5-inch cover display, so any increase would build on those sizes.
According to the same source, a second-generation foldable, dubbed "iPhone Ultra 2," is slated for a fall 2027 release and may reuse the first model's display. The initial foldable iPhone is expected to carry an ultra-thin design, Touch ID, the A20 processor, a C2 modem, and a price tag around or above $2,000.
