Phillies acquire Luis Arraez and Caleb Kilian from Giants in trade

Resumen

Philadelphia received second baseman Luis Arraez and reliever Caleb Kilian from San Francisco for two minor-league pitchers, prompting lineup adjustments for the Phillies.

The Philadelphia Phillies have completed a trade with the San Francisco Giants, acquiring second baseman Luis Arraez and right-handed reliever Caleb Kilian in exchange for minor-league right-handers Ramon Marquez and Marty Gair. The move will prompt a reshuffle of Philadelphia's infield, with shortstop Bryson Stott shifting to third base, first baseman Alec Bohm moving to first, and veteran outfielder Bryce Harper returning to the outfield.

Arraez, who is set to become a free agent after the season, posted a .328/.364/.446 slash line with four home runs, 43 RBIs and 10 stolen bases for the Giants. He missed Friday’s game and was held out on Saturday due to leg cramps, but is expected to be eligible for the Phillies’ roster once the trade is finalized.

Caleb Kilian, who missed the 2023 season with a labrum strain, posted a 4.26 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and a 53-to-20 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 44⅓ innings for San Francisco. Philadelphia sees him as a potential middle-relief option.

"The Rays have expressed interest," said MLB insider Jeff Heyman, noting that other clubs are also monitoring Arraez.

The Giants are expected to give prospects Nate Furman and Osleivis Barabe opportunities at second base following the trade. The transaction is anticipated to be completed before the upcoming trade-deadline deadline.
