Trump claims US munitions are plentiful as Iran-Oman talks on Strait of Hormuz progress

President Trump dismissed reports of low US munitions, while Iran and Oman near an agreement on vessel transit through the Strait of Hormuz; meanwhile, Israeli-Hezbollah clashes intensify and Red Sea shipping faces new attacks.

President Donald Trump said the United States has "massive amounts" of munitions, rejecting reports that the Pentagon’s interceptor stockpiles are critically low. Senior military officials, however, have warned that key missile-defense interceptors are nearly depleted and that overall munitions reserves are "dangerously low."

In the Middle East, Iran’s deputy foreign minister Kazem Gharibabadi told state media that Tehran is finalising a framework with Oman for the movement of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz. The deal would establish separate inbound and outbound routes through Iranian and Omani waters, but Gharibabadi said it does not guarantee an immediate reopening of the waterway, which remains subject to U.S. guarantees and the lifting of sanctions.

U.S. Vice President JD Vance cautioned that negotiations with Iran will be "messy" and highlighted Tehran’s internal challenges, while noting that oil prices are expected to fall as the United States strengthens its position against a nuclear-armed Iran.

On the Israel-Lebanon front, Israeli forces struck the Lebanese cities of Tyre, Al-Burj Al-Shamali and Al-Mansouri, injuring at least eight people. Two Israeli soldiers were killed by an explosive device in Majdal Zoun during an operation against Hezbollah infrastructure. The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon recorded 113 projectiles launched by Israel on a single day, the highest count since June.

Human-rights groups allege that an Israeli strike in April that killed Lebanese journalist Amal Khalil and injured her camerawoman may have violated international law. Israel has denied deliberately targeting the journalists and says a preliminary inquiry is ongoing.

In the Red Sea, two recent attacks near the Bab al-Mandeb Strait resulted in the sinking of an Indian-flagged vessel and a fire on another ship off Yemen’s coast. All crew members were reported safe. The attacks are being linked to Iran-backed Houthi militants, who have threatened to expand their targeting of commercial shipping.

International shipping associations have urged the United Nations to oppose any tolls or fees that Iran might impose on vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, warning that such measures could raise global energy costs and fuel inflation.
