Hadestown Recasts Hades Role, Replaces Geno Segers with Ben Davis
Broadway's Hadestown announced that Ben Davis will assume the role of Hades on its New York City production, replacing Geno Segers after backlash over Segers' past remarks on LGBTQ+ and women's issues. According to Vulture, the casting change was made following the controversy surrounding Segers' comments. Earlier, producers said the decision to part ways with Segers came after the resurfacing of his online posts that were criticized as anti-transgender.
The Hollywood Reporter noted that the actor and producers mutually agreed to end the partnership after public criticism of his social-media statements. Deadline reported that the removal was prompted by the emergence of videos in which Segers made remarks deemed hostile toward transgender people, prompting the production to seek a replacement.
