Trump supporters criticize DHS chief Mullin over visa and ICE remarks
Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin faced renewed criticism on August 4, 2026, after his remarks urging an expansion of farm-work visas and a scaling back of ICE raids were denounced by Trump supporters as a softening of immigration enforcement. Earlier, on August 2, 2026, Mullin posted a hard-line anti-amnesty statement that appeared to conflict with comments he made at a governors’ meeting, prompting backlash from conservative figures (Fox News). Prominent Trump allies called for his removal (The Daily Beast, The Independent).
Mullin defended his position, saying immigration reform is needed within the current system (Forbes). Data released to Politico showed ICE deportations had not increased under his tenure, fueling further criticism (Daily Beast).
