Vincent Pastore, 80, Dies of Natural Causes in Bronx Apartment
Actor Vincent Pastore, known for his role on "The Sopranos," died at age 80 from natural causes, with authorities finding no evidence of foul play.
Actor Vincent Pastore was found unresponsive in his Bronx apartment and died of natural causes, officials said. The 80-year-old, best known for portraying Salvatore "Big Pussy" Bonpensiero on "The Sopranos," is believed to have passed away in his sleep, and investigators reported no signs of criminal activity.
Friends and family had been unable to reach Pastore for several days before his longtime assistant Stephen Villano checked on him and discovered he was unresponsive. The Bronx-born performer is survived by his daughter, Renee.
Pastore, a Vietnam-era Navy veteran, began his acting career in his 40s after earning a drama degree from Pace University. His film credits include "Goodfellas," "Carlito's Way," "Gotti," "Mickey Blue Eyes" and "Shark Tale," and he later appeared in television series such as "Law & Order," "Hawaii Five-0" and "Yellowjackets." He also worked in reality TV, Broadway, radio and hosted the podcast "Fuhgeddaboudit with Vinny Pastore."
"He was the most loyal client, and he always gave to charity," longtime manager Bob McGowan told the Associated Press. "He was the kind of guy who would help anybody, which is rare in my business." Former representative Robert Attermann called Pastore "one of the kindest, most generous people I have ever known." Sopranos co-star Michael Imperioli remembered him as "a kind-hearted brother who cared deeply about his family and friends."
