Bomb blast near Moscow restaurant kills three, injures dozens
An improvised explosive device detonated outside an upscale Italian restaurant in central Moscow, killing three people including a security guard and wounding at least 21, Russian authorities said.
An improvised explosive device exploded near an upscale Italian restaurant in Moscow's Kudrinskaya Square at about 7:55 p.m. local time on Saturday, killing three people and injuring at least 21 others, the Russian Anti-Terrorism Committee said.
According to police, an unidentified woman attempted to enter the restaurant but was stopped by a security guard. The device she was carrying detonated moments later. The three fatalities were the guard, the woman and a restaurant patron.
State news agency RIA Novosti released footage of heavily armed security forces securing the scene and cordoning off the area. Investigators have not publicly identified the victims or disclosed any group claiming responsibility.
The Kommersant newspaper cited unnamed sources saying the bomb may have been intended to target guests on the restaurant's outdoor summer terrace and could have been detonated remotely, but these details have not been independently verified.
