Khabir Nurmagomedov says cousin Usman will decide free agency soon
Khabib Nurmagomedov indicated that his cousin Usman Nurmagomedov will finalize his next fight promotion within weeks after completing his PFL contract with a knockout win.
Usman Nurmagomedov, who is unbeaten at 22-0, finished his PFL contract on Friday with a first-round knockout of Archie Colgan at the PFL New York event, defending his lightweight title. His cousin and coach, former UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, was in his corner and praised the performance.
Khabib posted on Instagram that negotiations over Usman's next contract are expected within the next month and that a decision on which organization he will join will be announced "very soon." He added that Usman has demonstrated he is the top lightweight outside the UFC through his recent fights.
"Usman has shown and proven over the last couple of years that he is the best lightweight outside the UFC. Not with words, but with his performances," Khabib wrote.
The statement suggests that Usman's free-agency outcome will be resolved shortly, though no specific promotion has been confirmed.
