College basketball transfers receive temporary injunctions in Ohio and Tennessee lawsuits
Several former college players have been granted temporary injunctions that could allow them to compete for a fifth year, prompting a ranking of the transfers amid ongoing legal disputes.
Multiple lawsuits have been filed by former college basketball players who completed their eligibility in the spring and are seeking a fifth year of competition. Recent court orders in Ohio and Tennessee granted temporary injunctions to a number of these athletes, creating a window in which they may enter the transfer portal while the cases are resolved.
According to sources familiar with the litigation, the injunctions do not guarantee eventual NCAA clearance, but they allow the players to explore roster opportunities. Teams are expected to sign the athletes with the anticipation that the legal matters will be settled in their favor.
The rankings of the transferred players are being compiled based on the likelihood of their participation once the injunctions are in effect. Should similar court orders be issued in related cases in North Carolina, Georgia, California and West Virginia, those athletes would also be incorporated into the transfer portal rankings.
