Co-creator Andrew Guest Addresses Cancellation of Marvel's 'Wonder Man' Series
Showrunner Andrew Guest used TikTok to thank fans and explain that the Disney+ series 'Wonder Man' was cancelled despite completed contracts and planned production.
Showrunner and co-creator Andrew Guest posted on TikTok on Saturday to thank viewers and comment on the cancellation of Marvel Television’s drama "Wonder Man." He said he had been listening to fan reactions and clarified that the decision was not a marketing stunt, noting that no film was planned and scheduling conflicts were not a factor. Guest added that he, lead actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, director Destin Daniel Cretton and Sir Ben Kingsley were eager to continue the series, with contracts signed and production slated to begin early next year. He explained that internal discussions between Disney and Marvel led to the conclusion that the project no longer made sense for the company, despite earlier indications to the contrary.
Variety reported in late July that Disney+ cancelled the series before the second season launch, reversing a March announcement that the show would return for Season 2. Lead actor Abdul-Mateen II posted on Instagram that the news had been announced, describing the situation as “that’s life.” The series, co-created by Cretton and Guest, starred Abdul-Mateen II as aspiring actor Simon Williams and featured Ben Kingsley, X Mayo, Demetrius Grosse, Zlatko Burić, Arian Moayed and Olivia Thirlby. The premise followed Williams and veteran actor Trevor Slattery (Kingsley) as they pursued roles in a new superhero film within the entertainment industry.
