Rams coach Sean McVay says former star Aaron Donald could earn roster spot after tryout
Aaron Donald participated in a workout at the Los Angeles Rams' facility, which the team logged as a tryout, and coach Sean McVay indicated he could still make the roster.
Aaron Donald, a three-time Defensive Player of the Year, completed a workout at the Los Angeles Rams' training complex on Wednesday, prompting the club to record the session as a "tryout" on the NFL's personnel database. Coach Sean McVay told NFL Network that the session was indeed a tryout and added, "I think he could make the team." Donald, 35, has not played since retiring two years ago and used the workout to assess his comfort in a helmet as he weighs a possible return to the league. McVay explained that the arrangement allowed the team to provide a workout within the league's procedural requirements, and defensive line coach Giff Smith described it as the most impressive tryout he has seen. Donald's interest in a comeback follows the Rams' acquisition of defensive end Myles Garrett in June. Over his ten-season career, Donald earned ten Pro Bowl selections and recorded 111 sacks.
