Russian attacks kill dozens and damage infrastructure across Ukraine, including Odesa port

Résumé

Russian missile, drone and artillery strikes across multiple Ukrainian regions killed at least several civilians, injured dozens and damaged residential buildings, energy facilities and the Odesa grain export hub.

Russian forces carried out a series of overnight attacks on Ukrainian cities and infrastructure, killing at least two men in a high-rise apartment building in Kharkiv's Saltivskyi district and wounding more than 20 people, according to Kharkiv Governor Oleh Syniehubov. In the southern Kherson region, artillery fire killed a 61-year-old woman, while an attack near a shopping centre in Pavlohrad injured nine people, including four children, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on social media.

Zelenskyy reported additional strikes in the Zhytomyr, Mykolaiv, Kyiv, Kherson, Sumy, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Zaporizhia and Donetsk regions. Russian state news agency TASS said Ukrainian drone attacks killed three civilians in Belgorod, Russia.

In the southwestern Odesa region, the Ukrainian air force said Russian forces launched ballistic, anti-ship and anti-radar missiles along with more than 200 Shahed drones, targeting the city and its port. Missile and drone impacts were recorded at 22 sites, with remnants of downed missiles found at six locations. TASS reported attacks on fuel, lubricant and military equipment depots at the Odesa port. Zelenskyy said the strikes hit the energy sector and that repair work was under way to restore power; at least eight people were injured and residential buildings and port facilities were damaged.

The Ukrainian leader warned that the attacks on Odesa's grain export facilities could affect global food security, noting that 28 people had been killed at the port in the first three weeks of July, according to Governor Oleh Kiper. Separate reports said Russian missiles struck two oil refineries in the Sumy region.
