Three killed and seven injured in overnight Russian strike on Kyiv and suburbs

Résumé

An overnight Russian attack on Kyiv and the Brovary district of Kyiv Oblast on Aug. 8 killed three people, including a child, and injured seven, regional officials said.

Russia launched a series of missile and drone strikes on Kyiv and surrounding areas during the early hours of Aug. 8, killing three people and wounding seven, regional governor Tymur Tkachenko said. The casualties included a child among those injured. The attacks damaged a residential building, vehicles and outbuildings in the Brovary district, and sparked a fire at a non-residential structure, while emergency crews continued to work at the sites.

"Russia continues to terrorize the civilian population," Tkachenko wrote on Telegram.

In Kyiv, the city’s military administration reported four additional injuries. Fires broke out in two garages and a commercial building in the Holosiivskyi district, and another blaze was extinguished at an enterprise in the Obolonskyi district, according to the State Emergency Service.

The Ukrainian Air Force warned residents of incoming drone waves shortly after midnight, with the first explosions heard around 12:45 a.m. Additional blasts were reported around 3 a.m., including ballistic missile strikes on the capital. Similar explosions were reported in Dnipro.

The Defense Ministry noted that Ukraine intercepted only 29 of the 195 ballistic missiles launched by Russia in July, highlighting ongoing challenges in the country’s air-defence capabilities.
