Eight killed in Russian airstrikes across Ukraine after Zelenskyy warned of large-scale attack
Russian missile and drone strikes killed at least eight people in Kyiv, Kryvyi Rih and Lviv following President Zelenskyy's warning of a massive attack, while Ukraine hit a logistics centre in Russia.
At least eight people were killed in Russian airstrikes that hit several Ukrainian cities overnight. One death was confirmed in Kyiv after explosions were reported in the early hours, and the city’s mayor urged residents to stay in shelters. In the central city of Kryvyi Rih, a missile strike on a private house killed two girls and four adults, with eight others wounded, while two apartment blocks were damaged in Lviv, injuring six people.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had earlier warned that Russia was preparing a "massive attack," citing a report from Air Force Commander Anatolii Kryvonozhko. He said the strike’s severity underscored the need for allied anti-missile support, referencing recent discussions with the United States about Patriot missile production licenses.
The Russian offensive involved roughly 70 rockets and 280 drones, according to Zelenskyy’s statements on X. Ukrainian officials in Kyiv and Kryvyi Rih provided casualty updates via Telegram and local military administrations.
Poland’s armed forces announced that fighter jets and early-warning aircraft were scrambled to protect its airspace amid the cross-border hostilities.
In retaliation, Ukrainian forces struck a logistics warehouse belonging to Russian retailer Wildberries in Penza, Russia, causing a fire, one injury and the evacuation of about 200 people. Ukrainian officials said the target supported the Russian military effort.
