George and Amal Clooney Evacuated as Wildfires Sweep Southern France
The celebrity couple and their twins were forced to leave their Brignoles estate amid massive wildfires that have prompted evacuations for over 200,000 people across France and neighboring countries.
George and Amal Clooney, along with their 9-year-old twins, have evacuated their wine estate in Brignoles, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, as wildfires spread across southern France. The couple informed the town’s mayor, Didier Brémond, in a letter that was later obtained by media outlets and confirmed by a Clooney representative.
"Dear Didier, at this point we have no idea whether our home makes it through this moment," the letter read. "We hope you and the people of our city are safe, and we are committed to being part of the community’s recovery."
The fires, described by the Associated Press as covering an area four times the size of Paris, have affected parts of France, Spain, Portugal and Greece. French authorities report that more than 200,000 residents have been ordered to leave their homes in the past week. President Emmanuel Macron called the blaze “completely unprecedented” and said it represents “the most severe situation recorded, the toughest since the Second World War.”
Local officials continue to coordinate evacuations and firefighting efforts as the region confronts one of the largest wildfire events in recent history.
