Detroit Lions and RB Jahmyr Gibbs Continue Contract Talks Ahead of Training Camp
The Lions say negotiations with rookie running back Jahmyr Gibbs are ongoing, with no major obstacles reported as the team begins its second week of training camp.
Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell and general manager Brad Holmes said the team is still in dialogue with rookie running back Jahmyr Gibbs about a new contract as the franchise enters the second week of training camp. Holmes told SiriusXM the club is "having dialogue" with Gibbs, while Campbell noted he was surprised the deal had not been finalized yet.
Both officials indicated a willingness to reach an agreement, and no reports have emerged of a stalemate or refusal to pay. However, Campbell’s comment that he "wasn't sweating" the hold-in and Holmes’s tentative hope that a deal will be reached suggest the negotiations are not yet concluded.
Analysts note that the Lions have historically extended players quickly after expressing interest, and the recent three-year extension signed by Bijan Robinson with the Atlanta Falcons has raised expectations for a swift resolution. Nonetheless, the team’s early-season schedule provides time for Gibbs to be integrated before the regular season begins.
Observers say that if Gibbs remains unsigned after the first preseason game, concerns may rise, but for now the situation is considered low-risk.
