CNN poll shows low approval for Trump as midterms approach

Resumen

A CNN-conducted survey finds Donald Trump's approval at 34%, with most respondents saying he is not focused on the nation's top issues ahead of the upcoming midterm elections.

A recent CNN poll commissioned by market-research firm SSRS indicates that 75% of American adults believe President Donald Trump is not paying sufficient attention to the country's most important problems, and 66% think he puts his own interests above those of the United States. The survey, conducted less than 100 days before the November midterm elections, also shows Trump's overall approval rating has fallen to 34%, matching his previous low after the January 2021 Capitol incident.

Respondents expressed limited support for Trump’s handling of the conflict in Iran, with only 28% approving of his actions and 25% believing the war has been worthwhile in terms of cost and American lives. Domestic concerns also weigh heavily, as 74% say rising gasoline prices have caused some hardship, up from 63% earlier in the year.

Economic issues appear to be a growing source of dissatisfaction: the share of respondents who feel Trump has not done enough to lower everyday prices rose from 58% a year ago to 71% in the latest poll. Attitudes toward his immigration policies have also shifted, with just 39% rating his performance as good and 54% saying he has gone too far with mass deportations.

When asked whether Trump is in touch with everyday problems faced by Americans, 73% answered no. Only 38% consider him an effective world leader, and 57% say the 80-year-old president lacks the stamina and sharpness needed for the role.
