Spider-Man: Brand New Day Sets Record with $360 Million Opening, Surpassing Avengers: Endgame

Resumen

The new Spider-Man film earned $360 million in its domestic opening weekend, the highest ever and overtaking the previous record held by Avengers: Endgame. The movie also posted strong global earnings and several ancillary opening-weekend records.

The latest Spider-Man installment, "Brand New Day," opened in U.S. theaters with a $360 million domestic weekend, eclipsing the prior record of $357 million set by 2019’s "Avengers: Endgame." The figure exceeds the $355 million estimate for the weekend and makes it the highest opening in box-office history, not adjusted for inflation.

The film also generated $72 million from preview screenings and a $169.8 million opening-day total, both new benchmarks. Globally, it has amassed $932 million in its first three days, ranking as the second-largest worldwide debut behind "Avengers: Endgame," which opened to $1.2 billion.

"Wow! 360 million thank-yous to all the filmmakers, actors, producers, and to my colleagues at Sony, who created such a fantastic film and an exceptional marketing and distribution campaign," said Tom Rothman, chairman of Sony Pictures.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the movie follows the events of "No Way Home," with Peter Parker confronting a new threat to New York while dealing with personal challenges. Industry analysts expect the film to continue strong performance through the summer and potentially exceed $2 billion worldwide, a milestone reached by only a handful of movies.
