Spider-Man: Brand New Day records lowest Rotten Tomatoes score among Tom Holland's solo films

Resumen

The new Spider-Man film opened to a 90% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the lowest of Tom Holland's three previous solo entries, after its review embargo was lifted.

The review embargo for "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" ended on Tuesday morning following critic screenings across the United States. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the movie continues four years after the events of 2021's "Spider-Man: No Way Home," which concluded with Doctor Strange erasing the public's memory of Peter Parker.

The film follows a solitary Peter Parker as he attempts to reconnect with MJ and Ned while confronting a new antagonist and dealing with increasingly erratic spider-sense abilities. Rotten Tomatoes reported an initial 92% critics score, which has since settled at 90% based on 120 reviews, making it the lowest-rated Tom Holland-led Spider-Man entry on the site. The rating could change as the movie proceeds through Thursday preview screenings and its nationwide release on Friday.

Among Holland's solo Spider-Man movies, "Spider-Man: Far from Home" (2019) holds a 91% critics score, while his debut "Spider-Man: Homecoming" (2017) sits at 92%. The highest-rated entry, "Spider-Man: No Way Home" (2023), earned a 93% rating and grossed $1.9 billion worldwide. "Brand New Day," rated PG-13, also features Jon Bernthal, Sadie Sink, Tramell Tillman, Liza Colón-Zayas, Michael Mando and Mark Ruffalo, and will open nationwide on Friday after Thursday preview screenings.

"The film picks up four years after the events of No Way Home, exploring Peter's struggle with isolation and his efforts to rebuild relationships," a studio spokesperson said.
