Former UFC contender Anthony Smith charged with domestic assault and terroristic threats

Résumé

Anthony Smith was released on a $500,000 bond after being charged with first-degree domestic assault, terroristic threats and false imprisonment following an alleged incident with his wife in Nebraska.

A Nebraska judge set a $500,000 bond for former UFC title challenger Anthony Smith, with the condition that he maintain distance from his wife, Sarpy County Attorney's Office said after his initial hearing. The office alleges that Smith threatened to kill his wife during a bar altercation in Gretna, then forced her into a vehicle and attempted to run her over as she tried to escape. Smith turned himself in after a warrant was issued and now faces three felony counts: first-degree domestic assault, terroristic threats and first-degree false imprisonment. He is scheduled to appear in court again on Aug. 17 and has not made a public comment. Smith, 38, works as an analyst for UFC events and recently competed in a bare-knuckle MMA bout, but is no longer an active fighter for the promotion.
