Bucs lineman Cody Mauch says Baker Mayfield is a franchise quarterback

Tampa Bay offensive guard Cody Mauch told reporters on Friday that he believes Baker Mayfield is "one hundred percent" a franchise quarterback. Mauch said the quarterback’s ongoing contract negotiations will not change his on-field mentality, adding that Mayfield will continue to focus on playing.

"It’s not going to change his mentality, the way he plays," Mauch said. He noted that the team’s priority is to play football and prepare for the 2026 season, and that contract discussions are a distraction that should subside. Mauch also predicted that Mayfield will eventually secure a new deal, suggesting the quarterback is likely to earn more money in the future. "He’s going to ball out and it’s going to get made right," Mauch said. The comments come as the Buccaneers navigate the ongoing contract saga surrounding Mayfield, with the team emphasizing performance over off-field issues.
