Buccaneers unhappy with Baker Mayfield's remarks about contract talks
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers expressed dissatisfaction after quarterback Baker Mayfield said he felt disrespected and undervalued in public comments about his pending contract extension.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers indicated they are displeased with quarterback Baker Mayfield's recent public comments regarding his contract negotiations. ESPN reporter Adam Schefter said on The Pat McAfee Show that the team "isn’t happy about the way (Baker Mayfield) spoke about the organization." Mayfield, who is in the final year of a three-year, $100 million extension signed in 2024, said he felt "disrespected a little bit" and "undervalued" because a new deal had not been reached earlier in the offseason. He has reportedly set a deadline to cease negotiations once training camp begins, which could leave him playing the 2026 season on the remaining year of his current contract. The quarterback posted a down-year stat line of 3,693 yards, 26 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while dealing with injuries and the loss of top receiver Mike Evans. The Buccaneers have not commented further on the contract dispute.
