Florida carries out first double execution since 1964, reveals meals
Florida carried out two executions on July 28 at the Florida State Prison near Starke, putting James Aren Duckett and Dominick Anthony Occhicone to death and disclosing their final-meal requests, according to the New York Post. AP News earlier reported that the state had scheduled the double lethal injection, describing it as the first double execution in Florida since 2017 and noting that an 80-year-old inmate would be among those executed.
Orlando Sentinel said Duckett, a former Lake County police officer convicted of a 1987 rape and murder, was executed despite last-minute appeals for DNA testing. USA Today described the event as the first double execution in the state since 1964 and noted the increased use of the death penalty under Governor Ron DeSantis.
