Documentary filmmaker suggests Bryan Kohberger may have targeted women in Idaho murders
A Netflix documentary director says the 2022 Idaho killings were possibly motivated by a hatred of women, while investigators say no evidence links the perpetrator to the incel movement.
A director of a forthcoming Netflix docuseries on the 2022 University of Idaho murders said the suspect, Bryan Kohberger, appeared to target a house that was occupied primarily by women. Skye Borgman, who is producing "The Idaho Murders: College Nightmare," told Fox News Digital that Kohberger watched the residence for weeks and months before the attack and suggested he may have harbored a low regard for women.
Kohberger, 31, pleaded guilty in 2025 to four stabbings that claimed the lives of students Kaylee Goncalves, Ethan Chapin, Xana Kernodle and Madison Mogen, and is serving four consecutive life sentences without parole. The documentary includes accounts from former classmates who described him as unfriendly, often speaking down to women and making them feel uncomfortable. Moscow Police Chief Anthony Dahlinger called the behavior “strange,” and a former Washington State University police chief recalled an incident in which a female student felt cornered by Kohberger.
FBI Special Agent Ed Jacobson, featured in the series, said investigators have not found evidence that Kohberger was part of the incel online community, though he was noted for concealing his internet activity. The film also cites a 2019 encounter at a Pennsylvania brewery where a woman reported that a man matching Kohberger’s description expressed a desire to kill people.
Kohberger recently sought to withdraw his guilty plea, alleging ineffective counsel, but the request was denied. The families of the victims have shifted focus to honoring their loved ones rather than seeking further answers from the perpetrator.
