New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh emphasized execution over play-calling during the opening day of training camp at the Greenbrier Performance Center, while quarterback Jaxson Dart and other players logged reps in the mountain setting.

New York Giants coach John Harbaugh said the first day of training camp in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, was about preparing for the upcoming season rather than simply running drills. He praised the "beautiful setting" of the Greenbrier Performance Center but stressed that the team is "chasing execution" and evaluating how well players perform the plays they intend to use in games.

Quarterback Jaxson Dart noted that he is receiving more under-center reps than in previous years, working on footwork and pocket awareness. He said the repetitions are helping him feel comfortable with the offensive concepts.

Wide receiver Malik Nabers participated in individual drills and route running, while rookie placekicker Dominic Zvada and veteran Ben Sauls each took kicks in a competition, with Zvada converting four of six attempts and Sauls making four of five.

Highlights included a short pass from Dart to tight end Chris Manhertz, a 40-yard touchdown connection between Jameis Winston and Braxton Berrios, and defensive plays by cornerback Tae Banks and linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux. The defense missed several interception opportunities, including drops by safety Jevon Holland and Paulson Adebo.

"We’re chasing execution. We’re at a stage now, we’re getting ready for the games," Harbaugh said.

"This is like old school. It’s like what you see in the movies, so I was stoked just to come out here with the team," Dart added.

"Talked to several general managers and head coaches that have been here, and it’s everything they said it would be. I think it was 60 degrees this morning when we woke up and came over here. It’s a beautiful setting and I’m thoroughly impressed with the facilities," GM Joe Schoen said.

Injury updates noted that tight end Thomas Fidone and defensive tackle Sam Roberts cleared their physicals and joined the practice after being removed from the PUP list. The next three sessions are scheduled to be open to the public.
