Commanders fire tight ends coach Ben Steele after alleged policy breach
Washington Commanders dismissed tight ends coach Ben Steele following a reported violation of team policy linked to a June arrest, and will seek a replacement as training camp approaches.
Washington Commanders announced on Monday that tight ends coach Ben Steele will no longer be with the team, declining to comment on the reasons for his departure. According to a report by Nicki Jhabvala of TheAthletic.com, Steele was dismissed after violating team policy and was arrested on June 7 on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, with additional charges for refusing a blood or breath test and obstructing an officer. Steele informed the Commanders of the arrest, after which the team reported the incident to the league and placed him on paid leave. During his absence, offensive assistant Wes Welker assumed responsibility for the tight ends during minicamp. Head coach Dan Quinn is expected to name a new tight ends coach on Tuesday, the same day the full squad reports to training camp.
