Sister of North Carolina tourist who vanished in Grenada says she is grieving

Summary

Anna Watkins, sister of missing North Carolina mother Elizabeth Waddell, left Grenada expressing grief while the investigation into the July 22 disappearance continues.

Anna Watkins, sister of Elizabeth "Liz" Waddell, a 44-year-old physical therapist from Cary, North Carolina, posted on Thursday that she is grieving as she departs Grenada, where her sister disappeared on July 22. Watkins said she spent time on Grand Anse Beach, the site where Waddell was last seen jumping into the water near her Airbnb, and expressed hope that her sister will be found.

Waddell was reported missing at about 5:50 p.m. after she entered the water near her rental at 11:45 a.m., according to surveillance footage released by her family. She swam toward Grand Anse Beach and was last captured on video at 12:04 p.m., after which she disappeared from view. Grenadian authorities and Waddell’s husband, Cailen Waddell, have indicated that foul play is not suspected.

The family and investigators are working to reconstruct Waddell’s movements before she vanished. Watkins’ comments reflect personal loss, but the official investigation remains open.
