Ryan Coogler Announces David Jonsson as New Black Panther for 2028 Film
Director Ryan Coogler revealed at Comic-Con that David Jonsson will portray Prince T'Challa II in the upcoming Black Panther sequel scheduled for release on Dec. 15, 2028.
Director Ryan Coogler used Marvel's San Diego Comic-Con panel on Saturday to confirm that actor David Jonsson will assume the role of Prince T'Challa II in the third Black Panther film, slated for release on Dec. 15, 2028. Coogler will return to direct the sequel, which will follow the character's coming-of-age storyline introduced in the second installment.
Jonsson, known for his work in Stephen King’s "The Long Walk," "Alien: Romulus" and the series "Industry," thanked the production team after the announcement, saying he prefers to let the performance speak for itself.
The casting marks a transition from the late Chadwick Boseman's portrayal of T'Challa, whose character was honored in "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" through Letitia Wright's role as Shuri. Jonsson's character, introduced as T'Challa's son in the previous film, will now take the mantle of Black Panther.
Separately, the panel disclosed that Ryan Gosling will star in a new "Ghost Rider" movie set for 2028, directed by Shawn Levy, with actress Eva Mendes noted for her previous appearance in the 2007 version of the franchise.
