49ers criticized for 11-day delay confirming Shanahan’s crash
The San Francisco 49ers were criticized for waiting 11 days before confirming that head coach Kyle Shanahan had been involved in a July 14 car crash, NBC Sports reported. Shanahan suffered a broken nose, broken ribs, a hand injury, facial stitches and a concussion in the Palo Alto collision, ESPN noted. After being hospitalized and released, an assistant coach assumed his duties while he recovered.
He attended part of the first training-camp practice in a limited capacity, NBC Sports said. General manager John Lynch said the concussion was expected to clear well before the team's season opener in Australia. Later, Shanahan publicly admitted he was at fault for the crash, correcting earlier state-database reports, according to Yahoo Sports.
