Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes to use knee brace during practice after ACL surgery
Patrick Mahomes said he will start training with a knee brace after his ACL repair and will decide its duration based on comfort, noting he feels able to move with it.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes returned to practice wearing a brace on his surgically repaired knee. The quarterback, who tore his ACL on Dec. 14, said there is no set timeline for the brace and that he will keep it on as long as he feels comfortable.
"There isn’t really a plan for it. I’m going to start off with it just because I’ve worn it before and I feel comfortable with it," Mahomes said. "It’s not like I’ve been told I have to wear it or how long I have to wear it. It’s just going to be my comfortability how I feel." Mahomes, who previously used a brace at Texas Tech in 2015 after a knee injury, added that he can still move and play as he did in college. He will assess his performance during training camp and may continue using the brace, but he is medically cleared to play without it if he chooses.
