CBS Sports places Tony Romo on leave after Wisconsin DUI arrest
CBS Sports announced that analyst Tony Romo is on leave pending a court appearance following his arrest on suspicion of operating while under the influence in Milwaukee.
CBS Sports confirmed on Friday that analyst Tony Romo has been placed on leave until further notice after his arrest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. > "Tony Romo is on leave from his role at CBS Sports until further notice," the network said in a statement. Former Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt will fill Romo's spot, joining Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson on the network's NFL broadcasts.
According to a Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office report obtained by ABC News, Romo was stopped on July 23 and performed poorly on standardized field-sobriety tests. He was cited for operating while under the influence, unsafe passing and possession of an open container in a moving vehicle, and was released after custody. Body-camera footage of the arrest and tests was released by the sheriff's office.
Romo is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 21 at 8:30 a.m. He played 14 seasons as the Dallas Cowboys quarterback before joining CBS Sports in April 2017 as the lead game analyst for "The NFL on CBS." ABC News has sought additional comment from Romo’s representative.
