Apple TV+ releases trailer for Ted Lasso season four with nod to former character

Resumen

The new trailer for the upcoming fourth season of Ted Lasso shows original cast members reuniting and hints at a shift to a women's soccer team, while confirming the absence of several previous characters.

Apple TV+ has issued the official trailer for the fourth season of the comedy-drama Ted Lasso. The preview features several members of the original ensemble, including Juno Tempo, Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein and Brendan Hunt, reuniting on screen. In the closing scene, Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt) references the catchphrase of former player Dani Rojas, prompting a response from a new female player and a brief comment from Ted Lasso.

The upcoming season will focus on a women’s soccer team in Britain, meaning actors Cristo Fernández, Phil Dunster and Toheeb Jimoh will not return. New cast additions include Tanya Reynolds as co-coach Alice Chilton, child actor Grant Feely as Ted’s son Henry, and several other performers such as Faye Marsay, Abbie Hern, Jude Mack, Aisling Sharkey and Rex Hayes.

Jason Sudeikis said he personally called the departing cast members to explain the changes, adding that he preferred they hear the news directly rather than through the internet. "Because I didn’t want them to hear it on the internet," he told The Hollywood Reporter.

Ted Lasso debuted in 2020 and won Emmy awards for Outstanding Comedy Series in 2021 and 2022. Season three received mixed reactions from viewers. Sudeikis later addressed criticism in his 2024 book, describing the audience’s response as varied and noting that the show aims to engage viewers actively.

Season four is scheduled to premiere on August 5 on Apple TV+.
