Jason Sudeikis explains cast changes ahead of Ted Lasso season four
Jason Sadeikis said he personally informed former Ted Lasso actors that their characters will not return as the series shifts to focus on a women’s team for its August 5 premiere.
The fourth season of Apple TV+’s comedy series will debut on August 5 and will center on an all-female second-division football team, according to an official logline. The change means the original AFC Richmond squad will not appear in the new episodes.
Co-creator and lead actor Jason Sudeikis said he called each former cast member individually to convey the decision, preferring a personal approach rather than an online announcement. > "Because I didn’t want them to hear it on the internet, and because I love those guys and we all went through something together," he told The Hollywood Reporter.
Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, Jeremy Swift, Juno Temple and Brett Goldstein are confirmed to return, while the status of supporting actors Toheeb Jimoh, Cristo Fernández, Kola Bokinni and Billy Harris remains unclear. Phil Dunster, who played Jamie Tartt, will be absent due to scheduling conflicts with another series. The role of Henry, Ted’s son, will be recast with Grant Feely.
Apple TV+ has not provided additional comment.
