Apple may launch new Mac mini and iMac with M6 chips, bypassing M5

Résumé

A Bloomberg report suggests Apple could introduce updated Mac mini and iMac models that use the upcoming M6 processor instead of the expected base M5 chip.

Apple is reportedly planning to equip its next-generation Mac mini and iMac with the forthcoming M6 processor, skipping the anticipated base M5 chip. The information comes from Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman, who said the new Mac mini under test already features M6 and M5 Pro variants, indicating a shift from earlier expectations of M5-based models. He added that the refreshed low-end 14-inch MacBook Pro will also be among the first devices to use the M6 chip, and that the updated iMacs are slated to launch alongside it, likely in the fall.

"The wave of new computers will begin with a refreshed low-end 14-inch MacBook Pro that will be among the first Macs to use a new M6 chip and the first new iMacs in two years," Gurman wrote.

Current desktop Macs, including the Mac Studio, Mac mini and iMac, still run on the M4 generation, while Apple’s laptops have already moved to M5. The reported timing aligns with supply-chain constraints that have delayed the release of newer Mac mini and Mac Studio models. If the iMac also receives the M6 chip, both desktop models would launch with the newer processor, marking a coordinated update across Apple’s product line.
