Apple Prioritizes 14-Inch MacBook Pro Amid Air Shortage
Apple said it was prioritizing sales of the base-model 14-inch MacBook Pro in Cupertino, California, to free up production capacity for an upcoming M6 refresh, while the MacBook Air remained in limited supply because of a memory-component shortage. The shift follows a series of Mac refresh plans reported over the past weeks.
Bloomberg and MacRumors indicated that Apple intends to introduce new Mac mini and iMac models with M6 chips, launch a touchscreen MacBook and refreshed iMac, mini and Studio models, and later extend the thinner, OLED-display chassis first seen on the rumored MacBook Ultra to an entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro as early as 2027. Earlier updates also saw the MacBook Pro line refreshed with M5 processors, brighter mini-LED screens and AI features, while the company outlined a multi-year refresh schedule through 2028 amid ongoing memory-chip constraints.
