Panthers place rookie linebacker Nic Scourton on injured reserve after ACL tear

Resumen

Carolina Panthers outside linebacker Nic Scourton suffered a torn ACL on the first day of training camp and will be placed on injured reserve, adding to a string of injuries for the team.

Carolina Panthers outside linebacker Nic Scourton tore his anterior cruciate ligament during Thursday's training camp drills, the team confirmed. The 21-year-old, a second-year player who posted 47 tackles, five sacks and seven tackles for loss in 17 games last season, will be moved to injured reserve while he seeks a second medical opinion. > "I'm just sick about it," Panthers general manager Dan Morgan said.

Coach Dave Canales praised the team's camaraderie after the injury, noting that players and staff gathered around Scourton and offered support as he was taken to the training room. > "They care about each other. Whenever you’re in a group of people doing something hard together, it has a way of creating a special bond," Canales said.

Scourton's injury comes as the Panthers contend with multiple other setbacks. Right tackle Taylor Moton is sidelined due to a blood clot in his lungs, and left tackle Ickey Ekwonu remains out while recovering from a torn patellar tendon. Cornerback Jaycee Horn missed practice with a foot laceration, and defensive linemen Tershawn Wharton and Bobby Brown were also listed as out with neck and hamstring issues, respectively.
