Wildberries removes military items from search results after Ukrainian strikes on its warehouses

Resumen

Russia's largest online retailer has stopped showing many military-related products for search terms referencing the war in Ukraine, after a series of Ukrainian attacks damaged several of its warehouses.

Russia's biggest e-commerce platform, Wildberries, has begun filtering out military-related listings when users search for terms that directly reference the country's invasion of Ukraine. The change follows a wave of Ukrainian strikes that began on July 18 and hit seven of the company's warehouses, including sites in St. Petersburg, Tver, Moscow Oblast, Voronezh and Crimea.

According to reports, queries such as "everything for the SVO" or "SVO" now return a message stating that no suitable products were found, whereas the same searches previously displayed more than 200,000 items, including helmets and other equipment. Screenshots shared by a monitoring project showed that military helmets were among the earlier results.

The retailer still lists some dual-use items, such as bulletproof vests and protective helmets, under broader categories like "Sport," and other goods such as first-aid kits, backpacks, radios, flags and FPV drones remain searchable with alternative terms.

Wildberries, often compared to Amazon, has said the recent attacks have caused extensive damage to its logistics network, potentially costing the company billions of rubles.
