Eagles hold third training-camp practice, noting defensive highlights and mixed offensive performance
Philadelphia Eagles completed a non-padded third practice at the Jefferson Health Training Complex, with the defense showing strong play while quarterback Jalen Hurts and the offense faced challenges.
Philadelphia held its third training-camp practice on Saturday at the Jefferson Health Training Complex, running a non-padded session that lasted just under two hours. Quarterback Jalen Hurts displayed aggression, completing a pass to DeVonta Smith along the sideline and delivering a throw to Britain Covey in a tight window, but also struggled with multiple sacks and several incomplete throws, including an overthrown pass to tight end Dallas Goedert.
The Eagles' offense overall had difficulty moving the ball, with Hurts taking eight sacks, according to a local sports radio tally, and several passes being knocked down or intercepted.
Defensive players received praise for their performance. Edge rusher Jalyx Hunt, playing in Lane Johnson's absence, consistently pressured the backfield and was credited with a pass deflection. Defensive tackle Jalen Carter, fresh from a contract extension, recorded a sack and a pass breakup. Linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. also made notable plays, including a pass breakup and a tackle on running back Tank Bigsby.
Injury updates indicated that offensive tackle Lane Johnson, linebacker Jihaad Campbell, defensive tackle Ta’Quon Graham, wide receiver Elijah Moore and offensive tackle Cameron Williams (knee contusion) did not practice, while guard Micah Morris and edge rusher Keyshawn James-Newby left early for medical evaluation. Undrafted rookie offensive lineman Jaedan Roberts was carted off after a serious-looking injury on the final play.
Rookie wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks continued to earn consideration as a potential starter, and running back Darius Cooper made several catches, including a high-point reception. Backup quarterback Andy Dalton appeared to have an edge over Tanner McKee in early completions.
The team will observe a rest day on Sunday before resuming practice on Monday at 10:00 a.m. Eastern, with additional sessions scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday and a closed-door walkthrough planned for Thursday.
