Rabies-Positive Bat Found in Vista Deli Prompts County Health Warning
On 27 July 2026, San Diego County public health officials warned that anyone who may have handled the rabies-positive bat found in the Yellow Deli in Vista should seek medical evaluation. The bat, discovered on a table at the restaurant, had tested positive for rabies earlier in the month.
On 11 July 2026, a dead wild bat near a restaurant at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park was confirmed positive for rabies, prompting officials to advise anyone with direct contact to obtain medical care. County officials later broadened the alert to include patrons who might have touched the animal at the Vista deli.
