Trump says new forced-labor tariffs mirror Supreme Court-overturned duties
President Donald Trump said the forced-labor tariffs the United States imposed this week are essentially the same as the duties the Supreme Court struck down, defending the 10%-12. 5% measures on imports from more than 60 countries. The tariffs, announced on July 20, target goods from 60 trading partners for alleged forced-labor violations and replace a global 10% duty that expired the same day. U.
S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer had earlier warned that the existing Section 122 duties would end on and that new action was imminent. Australia, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Japan and China have criticized the move as unjustified, arguing it circumvents the court’s ruling.
