Injured bald eagle rescued after aerial clash in Big Bear
A bald eagle injured in a fight with two other eagles was rescued by the San Dimas Raptor Rescue team and taken to a rehabilitation facility, with officials believing it may be the bird known locally as Jackie.
The Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation said its San Dimas Raptor Rescue team retrieved an injured bald eagle early Saturday near Dana Point Park in Big Bear Lake and transported it to a wildlife rehabilitation center. A video posted on social media showed the bird defending itself against two other eagles by turning over and using its talons, but it was unable to fly away.
Friends of Big Bear Valley, a local nonprofit that monitors a pair of bald eagles at a nearby nest, noted that one of the birds, known as Jackie, had been missing for several days. Because the rescued eagle is not banded, officials could not confirm its identity, but the group later said it appears likely to be Jackie.
"She is in the best place she can be and getting the care she needs. We have not received any updates but were assured by the facility they will contact us when they have information," the group posted.
No further details on the eagle's condition have been released.
