Supreme Court to Review Alaska Pilot's Aircraft Seizure Over Beer
The U. S. Supreme Court agreed to hear an appeal challenging Alaska’s seizure of a bush pilot’s aircraft over a six-pack of beer, in Washington, D. C.
CNN reported that the 82-year-old pilot’s 1969 Cessna was confiscated after a passenger was found carrying the alcohol destined for a dry village. AP News noted that the justices will examine whether the forfeiture violates the Eighth Amendment’s Excessive Fines Clause. Fox News added that the seizure followed a misdemeanor alcohol-import conviction, highlighting the constitutional stakes. NBC and CBS confirmed that the court will consider the arguments in upcoming hearings.
