Pentagon Reclassifies Four Iran-War Deaths Under New Overseas Operations Category

The U. S. Department of Defense announced on 28 July that four service members killed in the July 17 Iranian strike in Jordan were reclassified as casualties of a new “Overseas Operations” category, removing them from the Iran-war tally. The adjustment lowered the reported death toll for the conflict to 14 and added more than 400 wounded to the record, bringing the total U.

S. casualties since February to 624 injured. The change follows a temporary data disruption that earlier in July had caused the Defense Casualty Analysis System to list only 14 deaths instead of 18, prompting the department to correct the database.
