Fox joins Herbert and Burns in tying Open low-round record
Lucas Herbert and Sam Burns each posted a 62 in the second round of the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, tying the lowest round ever recorded in a men’s major, according to The New York Times. Herbert’s round, reported by the New York Post, matched the record but fell short of a potential 61 after he missed a short putt. Yahoo Sports noted that a two-stroke penalty dropped Bryson DeChambeau from second place to a tie for fifth, while Herbert and Burns shared the lead after the round.
New Zealand’s Ryan Fox recorded an eight-under 62 in the third round, also matching the major-championship low-round record, Bleacher Report said. His performance kept him in contention as the tournament progressed. The score placed Fox among the leaders heading into the final round.
