Air-Quality Alerts Issued Ahead of New Jersey World Cup Final
New York and New Jersey officials issued an air-quality alert as smoke from Canadian wildfires drifted over the region, BBC reported, warning residents to limit outdoor activity ahead of the World Cup final at MetLife Stadium. Yahoo Sports noted that the haze was not expected to disrupt the Argentina-Spain final. Deadline said the White House and FIFA would meet with President Gianni Infantino to assess health risks from the smoke.
Forbes cited forecasts that the smoke would diminish, leading to moderate conditions in New Jersey, and FIFA officials said the match would go ahead as planned. Al Jazeera reported that thunderstorms were expected to clear the air and improve visibility before kickoff.
